So I called the guy that originally set me up with Filezilla to see what he suggested. He opened his Filezilla software using my host and passwords and didn't have a problem getting in...which tells me it's not the server but the way I have my software configured.
I went through the install wizard again but I think something in that process is set wrong and I'm not sure what.
FileZilla Set-up Wizard Options
The first option is passive or active with passive recommended
And I also checked "Allow fall back to other transfer mode on failure.
The next option states: Some misconfigured remote servers which are behind a router, may replay with their local IP address: so I checked "Fall back to active mode" rather then "Use the server's external IP address instead" ( I am behind a router --see below)
The next page in wizard states: "In order to use active mode, FileZilla needs to know your external IP address." And then gives the following options:
1. Ask your operating system for the external IP Address.
2. Use the following IP address.
3. Get external IP address from http://ipfilezilla-project.org/ip.php (for use with a dynamic IP)
And an option to check: Don't use external IP address on local connections. --- which I checked
Since I know my IP I entered it on 2 but I have also tried option 1.
There are two options on the "Configure Port Range" page
1. Ask your operating system for a port
2. Use the following port range: with the default being 50000 to 51000
I've tried both but it is set on 2 now
The wizard suggested I may need to reconfigure my firewall and/or my router next so I tried turning off my firewall -- no luck
Since I have a router (because my PC is wireless and connects without issue to the U-verse system through their gateway in my home) and I'm not having problems with internet browsers so that doesn't seem to be the issue either.
Given the above options I think my lack of knowledge on active, passive and ports is the issue here and since their are 9 or ten choices in the wizard the possible combinations are to high to try them all. I would appreciate some additional direction on my choices (above).
Thanks again.
