Means the problem is with you, not the server. Could be you're running a device or software in your network that cannot process the MLSD command. Especially older/legacy network/security equipment may only know LIST. In an ideal world they would just leave FTP traffic alone, *sigh*.
Does the server offer connecting using FTP(E)S? If yes, use it - as then the FTP traffic is cloaked from your firewall/router etc. Otherwise the only way is to find the bad item and teach it a lesson.
